I’ve been living in the Sherman Oaks/Van Nuys area for years and when we’re hungry, we usually head over to busy Ventura Boulevard for some good eats. There are a lot of “mom and pop” type places in and around our neighborhood and for a little over two decades, have driven right by them without giving them a second thought.
I had a craving for breakfast today; waffles specifically. Hubby surfed the net to see what our options were and came across Nat’s Early Bite Coffee Shoppe in Van Nuys. Located on the corner of Hazeltine and Burbank, Nat’s serves up breakfast, lunch and dinner, and offers up homemade desserts such as pies, cakes and muffins. They also have daily specials which change daily. But it’s their breakfast, unbeatable prices and friendly service that keeps customers coming back. They even sell their own homemade jams!
I was in the mood for breakfast, despite the late hour. Hubby and son #1 decided to order breakfast as well. I went with my initial craving–waffles with two eggs over easy and two sausage links. Hubby went with the Ribeye and Eggs w/ country fries from the Specials Board and Son #1 ordered the French Toast with scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage.
Portions were generous and filling. French toast and waffles were delish. Hubby enjoyed his ribeye steak and the country fries were really good. Hubby’s order came with a homemade cinnamon roll and I tried a little bite of it. I like my cinnamon roll a bit doughy with generous icing. Nat’s was a bit dry but okay. I wanted to order a slice of their homemade pie afterwards but there was no room. I’ll just have to make a return visit soon.
Parking can be a challenge and they share a small lot with other businesses in this corner strip mall. There is street parking on nearby Stansbury. It’s a great neighborhood joint and even though the restaurant appears to be dated, I think it’s part of its charm.
