Los Angeles County

I know El Torito Grill is a chain but I do enjoy their bold and inventive menu as well as their freshly made, hot off the “press” handmade flour tortillas accompanied by their tomato salsa, roasted tomato salsa and honey butter. We usually go through several stacks of tortillas because they are that addicting and I’m happy that ETG has a restaurant in the San Fernando Valley; otherwise I would have to make the trek to Beverly Hills when the craving strikes, especially for their tortillas!

My family stopped by here for an early Sunday dinner after watching “Inception”, the new Leo DiCaprio flick screening at the ArcLight Sherman Oaks (and yes, I did like it) recently.

I ordered a Margarita Frescas to kick things off for me and kept it light by ordering the Romaine Salad (I love their Cilantro-Pepita dressing) and a new item on their appetizer menu, their Ceviche, a medley of fresh local halibut, fresh lime and orange, mango, papya and red onions. Cool and fresh and with the salad, I felt like I was enjoying a seafood salad.

Hubby ordered the chile relleno and grilled chicken roasted corn enchilada Combination accompanied with their refried black beans, pasilla-cilantro green rice and sweet corn cake.

My youngest son order his usual Lobster Quesdilla from the appetizer menu.  The quesadilla  was prepared with lobster, Monterey jack, cotija cheese, pasilla chiles and folded in a large flour tortilla, garnished with fresh mango salsa and a smoky chipotle sauce.

Number one son was a bit more hungry than his brother. He not only ordered the Lobster Quesadilla, but also ordered the Chipotle BBQ Shrimp made with jalapeno butter, roasted red peppers and pasilla chiles and drowned in their smoky sweet chipotle-raspberry tamarind barbecue sauce. The dish was accompanied with red and black beans, pasilla-cilantro green rice, crispy plantains and their fresh handmade tortillas.

Sis-in-law got her usual Chipotle BBQ Ribs basted with their smoky sweet chipotle-raspberry tamarind BBQ sauce and served with mesquite grilled corn on the cob, red and black beans, crispy shoestring potatoes and sweet corn cake.

ETG is very different from the original El Torito restaurant. If you haven’t had a chance to try them out, I highly encourage you to do so.
