I love to partake in afternoon tea and I’m always on the lookout for new tea places to try. I’m excited about this one because it’s (1) close to home and (2) I can go there for lunch during the work week. My co-worker Sharon happened upon this cute little gem tucked away on a side street amidst the hustle and bustle of Topanga Canyon and Ventura Boulevards a block away. High Tea Cottage serves high tea, afternoon tea, lunch and Sunday brunch in a very elegant setting and serves tea six days a week (they are closed on Tuesdays)! They even have a private salon if you want to host a private gathering to celebrate a birthday, bridal or baby shower and a private garden patio. A guitarist is on hand on Sundays to provide live entertainment while you are enjoying your Sunday brunch.
I’ve visited High Tea Cottage twice now; once with my good friend Jeanette and most recently with my friend and co-worker Sharon. Afternoon tea doesn’t appear to be filling but by the time the petit desserts arrive, you’re ready to take a nice long nap!
During my last visit to High Tea Cottage, both Sharon and I chose the Parlor Tea ($24) which is a lighter fare and includes is a 3-course tea: (1) tea of your choice, (2) tea sandwiches–the curried egg salad is amazing!, (3) warm scones served with devonshire cream and your choice of two fruit jams, and (4) three petit classic desserts. For my tea, I chose the Peach Lift Flavored Black Tea and it had a wonderful peach flavor and was simply delicious. The scones served that day were blueberry, warm and moist and I chose the apricot ginger and blueberry jam to accompany it.

If you are ever in the West San Fernando Valley area, stop by and partake in this elegant afternoon ritual. I guarantee you will enjoy it.
